runladylike.com Turns 1-Year-Old: Blogiversary Blowout Giveaway
One year ago on this exact day, something pretty incredible happened.
I started the journey to fulfill a dream.
It began as something small and personal. Something filled with hope, yet uncertainty.
During the past 365 days, it has become a life-changing experience that has been more far-reaching and meaningful than I could have ever imagined.
It is runladylike.com. This little ol’ blog. I launched this Web site on the evening of July 9, 2012, wondering if anyone would ever read it. Will I be able to make an impact? Will anyone care what I have to say?
Today, I’m talking to thousands of you – new runners, soon-to-be runners, experienced runners, injured runners, confident runners, uncertain runners, fast runners, slow runners, walkers, triathletes. People from every corner of the United States and around the globe who share a common passion to live better and be better through running and fitness.
Although some days it may appear as if I’m sharing advice, YOU have given me so much more than I even dreamed of a year ago. Encouragement. Inspiration. Motivation. Hope. Joy. Triumph. Determination.
Thank you.
Before we get to my proper thank-you with my big blogiversary giveaway (which I know is why you’re really here), I thought I’d take a few moments to reflect on the last year.

What was my first post? And Along Came rUnladylike
What accomplishments am I most proud of? Becoming a Brooks Run Happy Ambassador, getting selected to run on the Nuun Hood to Coast team and finishing my first half Ironman last year
What has been the most challenging aspect of the last year? Striking the right balance between all my priorities – family, friends, social activities, work, training and blogging. Sometimes that means staying up late or getting up super early to get a post in. Sometimes that means skipping a post I planned to write or pushing one to the following week. Sometimes that meant pushing aside something that was much more important in my life (I’ve had a few wake-up calls since then, and I’ve tried to avoid allowing that to happen).
What has been the biggest surprise? How many incredible people I’ve met. You’ve shared stories, advice, personal victories and heartbreaks. You give encouragement and support and ask questions. I never thought I’d see a day when the majority of people I know I’ve either met online or refer to by their Twitter handle.
What were my most unladylike moments? The name of this blog is the mash up between the words “run” and “unladylike.” If you’ve been reading for a while, you know I keep all my adventures real, honest and sometimes unladylike. My most unladylike moments this past year were pooping in the woods during the middle of a race and sharing with the world about the saddle sore I got after the Augusta 70.3 Ironman, surgery on my crotch and all.
And now, for the drum roll please …
As a huge thank-you for helping me continue to fulfill my running, fitness and blogging passions, I’m celebrating my 1-year blogiversary by giving back to you! I have 4 great giveaways for 4 lucky winners.

Four winners will be selected at random using Rafflecopter in the order of the prizes shown (winner #1 will receive the Brooks shoes, winner #2 will receive the Nuun, winner #3 will receive the RangeRoller and ProStretch Plus and winner #4 will receive the lip balm and lip mask.
I will contact each winner by Tuesday, July 16, 2013, with information on how to receive your prize.
Details for each prize are below.
1. One pair of Brooks Running shoes from the PureProject collection
Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that I’m in love with the Brooks Pure Cadence. It is virtually the only shoe I run in, and I’ve gone through 7 pairs since first discovering them in early 2012. Brooks describes the PureProject line as “radically light and flexible turn-huggers, designed to align your stride for a more natural ride.” Brooks uses cutting edge technology to create a design that wraps the foot for a “next-to-nothing feel.” There are 5 different shoes within the PureProject line for both men and women: a trail shoe, stability shoe (the Pure Cadence), neutral shoe and 2 more minimalist shoes. You must get your feet in a pair of these.
2. 4-pack of Nuun: My favorite hydration for endurance activities
Nuun is an electrolyte-enhanced drink tab that has no sugar or carbs, only 8 calories and is perfect for keeping you hydrated – whether you’re training for a marathon or sitting in your office. All you do is pop 1 tab into 16 ounces of water and wait about 2 minutes until it stops fizzing. And voilà! You have the perfect sports drink (and the only one I use during training and races, which I also supplement with plain water). Nuun is designed to help reduce cramps, improve muscle function and burn energy efficiently. It comes in 14 delicious flavors, with my favorites being Cherry Limeade (caffeine enhanced) and Watermelon. Mmm.
Be on the lookout for some exciting announcements about runladylike.com and Nuun in the coming days!
3. XL RangeRoller and ProStretch Plus from Medi-Dyne HealthCare Products
As runners and athletes, staying injury-free is key. Medi-Dyne’s RangeRoller and ProStretch Plus are awesome tools to add to your injury prevention arsenal. Back in May, Medi-Dyne sent me both to try and they’ve become a regular part of my stretching and recovery routine.
The RangeRoller is a 25″ deep tissue massage tool that assists in injury prevention and exercise recovery. It allows you to give yourself a massage, even accessing hard to reach places, to reduce fatigue, muscle pain, spasms, tension, cramps and soreness. The directions suggest rolling over problem areas about 20 times. I like to use it on my IT bands, quads, hamstrings, calves and outer shins.
The ProStretch Plus is a tool for preventing and relieving plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis and tight calves and hamstrings. This has been a lifesaver to me as I’ve been recovering from tight calves and sore feet/ankles. As Medi-Dyne shares on its Web site, the ProStretch Plus has a rocker design that holds your foot in the optimal position for providing a biomechanically accurate and efficient stretch that’s been proven to work the lower leg muscles more effectively. You can customize the tool to fit your foot size, increasing or decreasing the level of stretch. To see a detailed stretching guide, click here.
Both tools are easy to throw in your car to bring with you after a long run or to stash away in your closet (like me) before a hot shower.
4. Satin Lips Set from Mary Kay
When you’re constantly outside swimming, biking and/or running during changing temperatures and heat, your lips are prone to get dry and chapped. I constantly am battling with this, and the Satin Lips Set from Mary Kay is the best product I’ve found to help keep my lips healthy and not parched. One winner will receive a 0.3 oz. container each of lip balm and a lip mask. This 2-step system includes gently exfoliating your lips of dry/dead skin and them moisturizing them (for up to 6 hours) with the balm. Both are fragrance-free. Although this sounds like it would only be for the ladies, gentlemen: I think you will enjoy this too!
Good luck to everyone! Here’s to another year of running and blogging happy!
Tell me at least one thing about running/triathlons/fitness you’d like to read or learn more about this year to enter to win one of the great prizes above.

Happy anniversary! I’m hoping to do a triathlon in the next year so I need to get in the pool and get some lessons!
Have you ever done a duathlon? I’m not a very good swimmer so I’d like to learn more about just the biking/running aspect.
Thanks for the suggestion, Kristen. I haven’t done a duathlon before, but I’ll be on the lookout for someone who might be able to do a guest post on the topic. Good luck in the contest!
I’d love to read more about building endurance when running. I’m currently training for my first half marathon and I’m worried about not keeping up my pace.
I am so glad I came across your blog! I have enjoyed reading so much!! I am working towards my first triathalon and I would love to learn more about swimming and proper swim techniques! It is my weakest sport!
Stretching! I know its a huge part of running but I don’t do it enough. Also how to deal with the summer heat!
Swimming as cross training for runners. Congrats on One Year!!
My blog “turned 5” last month but I only started blogging again in March and am loving being able to talk about my journey through running…in addition to writing about life in general. It’s also been wonderful finding other blogs to gain advice and just enjoy reading about how everyone trains, recovers, races.
Congrats on your 5-year blogiversary, Jill!
I love learning about race day tips for marathons and half marathons! And I love the race recaps to see which races I might want to run!
Hi Leah! Thanks for the good suggestions. I’ll be thinking about this. In the meantime, here is a recent post I wrote about first-time marathons which has some reminders for anyone running a marathon: http://www.runladylike.com/2013/01/15/first-marathon. The key is to start conservatively so you have gas in the tank to hopefully finish with a negative (or equal) split, and to hydrate and fuel properly to get you to the finish line strong. All my race recaps can be found on my Races and Paces tab in the top navigation of the site. Thanks again!!!
I would love to read more about strength training for runners. I’m trying to get into it, but it seems so complicated!
How do you fuel during longer races? I guess I don’t understand the whole concept. My first half is coming up and I think I should be fueling, but it seems like a pain. Do you stop and gnaw on gummies? Trail mix? Energy gels seem gross… Do you try to down the food while still running? Isn’t just water enough?! AHH! Overwhelmed!
Great questions, Joanna! Fueling and hydrating on long runs is essential for success. I’ve done a few posts on nutrition during the past year but would be glad to revisit the basics here on the site in the coming weeks/months. If you have questions in the meantime, feel free to email me at runladylike@gmail.com. I’d be happy to help offer some suggestions. Happy running!
I’d like to learn more about proper fueling–not just during runs, but more importantly before and after. Still working on getting it right for my long runs!
Happy Anniversary! I’d love to learn how to become a better summer runner. Texas heat & humidity sucks the life out of me most of the year!
Also, maybe a top 5 list of must-do stretches for after a run. Stretching is something that definitely falls by the wayside in favor of refueling. Or collapsing on the couch 😉
Would like to read more about IT Band Syndrome & how to run injury-free or with very little discomfort after dealing with it.
IT Band Syndrome is the worst! I had it in 2011 and the key is rest, ice, compression and sports massage. Check out this injury prevention series I did earlier this year (with links to all 4 posts). I hope this will help, and I’ll be thinking about what I may be able to feature on the topic during the year. Thanks again! http://www.runladylike.com/2013/04/08/injury-prevention-for-runners
As a new mom, I’d love to learn more about how other parents fit running and training time into their busy schedules. Also any info on running while breastfeeding would be amazing. Congrats on one year!
Hi Diane! Thanks for stopping by and entering the contest. As someone who doesn’t yet have kids, I am definitely not the best person to speak on this, but there are 4 bloggers you should definitely check out: Dorothy from Mile Posts, Michelle from NYC Running Mama, Sarah from Run Far Girl and Katie Edwards from MsFitRunner. They are all awesome moms and runners and have talked a lot about these topics on their blogs.
I like personal race recaps and reviews!
I’d love to hear about how you go from being a primary runner to training for triathlons!
Hi Laurel. Thanks for the great suggestion. I’ll be talking a lot about triathlon training through the end of October, so I hope you’ll find some helpful tidbits. Here is an article that might help in the interim about transitioning from running to triathlon: http://www.runladylike.com/2013/06/19/first-triathlon-tips
I’m just really a beginner runner and I can do decently in spring/fall weather, but when it comes to heat I’m horrible. What can I do to help motivate myself on hotter days and not be so exhausted?
Great feedback, Heather! I am definitely going to be writing about how to keep your core body temperature down later this month, so I hope you will find that helpful. I am right there with you when it comes to heat!!! In the meantime, check out this post on how to adjust your goals and running in the heat: http://www.runladylike.com/2013/05/23/running-in-the-heat-adjusting-your-pace-expectations
I’m a beginner runner and I can do decently in spring/fall weather, but when it comes to heat I’m horrible. What can I do to help motivate myself on hotter days and not be so exhausted?
Congrats! I would love to learn more about increasing speed for long distance running. I am definitely not a fast runner, but I would like to challenge myself to increase my speed. I would also like to learn more about people’s favorite trails/places to run.
Hi! I’m a new runner, training for a 10k in Sept. and hopefully a half in April. I love reading your blog and it’s been an encourager when I’m having a bad run(s). I’d love to read more about how new runners can increase endurance and run faster. Thanks for helping me start my running journey!
Congrats!! I want to learn more about increasing my speed.
Thanks for the suggestion and congrats, Natalie! In the meantime, check out this post I wrote about how to run faster last year: http://www.runladylike.com/2012/10/18/how-to-run-faster/. Hope it helps a little 🙂 I’ll keep this topic fresh in my head and will be thinking about how I can share more on it. You may also like the training plans in the book Run Less Run Faster. They really focus on speed and are great. Good luck!
Congratulations on your first year of blogging! I’d love to see more foodie posts. Loved your Paleo diet meal suggestions & post protein smoothie recipe. I’m always looking for new ways to fuel up before & after my runs!
Thanks for the feedback, Kristin! I’m thinking about doing a post on easy weekday meals for busy runners, so be on the lookout in the next few weeks. Thanks again for the suggestions!
Happy bloggerversary! I am interested in hearing more about shoes, specifically changing the shoes you wear for long, slower runs vs. short, faster runs and the science behind which shoe you choose.
I want to read about how about biking! I don’t even know how to change the gears on my road bike.
happy anniversary to you and the blog! I am happy that I came across your site and have gotten to eat dash know you! You are super inspiring and an awesome athlete and I’d love to continue to see your training and how you are able to further increase your strength while keeping your distance at an Ironman / marathon level 🙂
Congratulations! What a wonderful milestone. It is amazing the difference a year can make. I would love to see posts about balancing training with “reality” – work, sleep, socialization, etc. Keep up the great work and good luck to you.
Happy blogiversary!!!! Thanks for the awesome giveaway. My biggest problem running is conquering my thoughts. My head wants to give up but I need to learn to run with my heart!!!!
Congrats on the anniversary! While contests are awesome, it was super fun to read some of your recap stuff like the most popular and favorite posts. It’s always interesting to compare my own (limited) knowledge to what others have to say (like the tips for running in the rain).
I’m a runner, but I’ve recently started cycling as a means of cross training. I’ve been considering doing my first triathlon (sprint distance for sure) and just don’t know enough about it. Do you have recommendations for someone who just wants to try one without full on jumping into the sport? What about tips on transitions for beginners? I’m confident in my fitness level, but not in handling the nuances of a race that crosses 3 sports.
Hi Mandy! Thanks so much for your thoughtful comments and feedback! Congrats on thinking about training for a triathlon. I wrote this post a few weeks ago about transitioning from running to triathlon: http://www.runladylike.com/2013/06/19/first-triathlon-tips. I hope you find it helpful too. Feel free to email me at runladylike@gmail.com if you have more questions or would like to talk more. I’ll continue thinking about ways to share about this topic here too. Thanks again and good luck with the contest.
Happy anniversary! I’m loving your blog. Wanting to start my own. Any tips?
Thanks so much Robin! I’d be happy to share some tips with you. Feel free to email me at runladylike@gmail.com. Additionally, 3 bloggers and I started a Twitter chat for people looking to learn more about blogging or hone their skills. It is called the #BlogSmarter Twitter chat and the next one is Wednesday, July 17 at 9 p.m. EST. Always a great place to learn new tips and meet other bloggers.
Congrats Girl! I would love to read more about quick strength training routines that I can incorporate at my gym in a fast workout after a busy workday! Thank you so much! 🙂
Happy Blogiversary!!! (I know I am looking forward to this same experience in a few months myself – now time to step it up!).
I would love to learn more about triathlons in general (best training, best races for beginners, ideas on how to fuel). They are something I’m interested in, but don’t want to jump the gun too soon as I just started running in November 2012 – and haven’t swam competitively since high school and the only outdoor bike riding I do is casual rides.
Congrats on 1 year! I’m also a new runner and would love to learn more about race day logistics.
I would love to learn more about training for a race that is out of state with different terrain than where you live. How to prepare for travel and train for race day.
Ooh! Great topic. Thanks for the feedback, Dacia. I’ll start thinking about this for a future blog post topic. Good luck!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! I’m interested in how one finds/joins a local or national (for fun and a little competition) team. I see nuun team, team sparkle, etc; I’m good at getting some miles in on my own, but I think being part of something would make it more fun.
congrats on your one year anniversary! You’ve done an amazing job with your blog!
I know it sounds very basic but I need to learn how to keep up my stamina and breathing. I always feel winded after a mile and end up doing a 1:1 walk/run routine.
How exciting! I would love to hear more about balancing work and training. It’s a tough line to walk (especially during the busy seasons of work) – but I love hearing how others are doing it as well!
I would like to read tips about starting a triathlon as far as the open water swim. When do you run and when do you dolphin dive? Where do you recommend staying for someone who is a strong swimmer versus a weaker swimmer? Also, I’d love a walk through of setting up transitions plus what you do in order at each transition to minimize time spent.
All great topics, Meghan. You’re putting me to work! 🙂 Thanks for entering and good luck in the contest.
Im interested in learning more about balancing training for running and cycling…Im a beginner cyclist and want to eventually do duathlons. Your advice would be greatly appreciated!
more about anything running… tips, tricks, reviews, endurance building, motivation, etc 🙂
I’m still learning how to fuel, so anything fuel related is always a MUST-READ for me! Congrats on one year!
Being in the northeast, it’s too cold to run outside for much of the year (and dangerous…icy, narrow sidewalks are the norm Dec-March!). I’m working on building up my endurance, but get so bored running on the treadmill. What are some ways to keep motivated during winter months?
Hi Kaitlyn! This is a great question, especially for those who live up north. As it gets closer to winter, I’ll try to write more about this. Thanks for the suggestion.
I would love to read more about building up your speed AND endurance! I want to not only run longer, but improve my overal times as well!
I’m always on the lookout for new strength/cross training ideas. Congrats on the anniversary!
Since I’ll be training for my 2nd marathon next month, I would love to see more marathon training advice. Happy one year!
I really like following your half ironman training. I’m gathering up the courage right now to do a tri (even just a sprint) so reading all of your posts on that is extremely helpful to me, so keep up the good work! And happy anniversary!
Thank you so much, Ashley! I’m super excited for you to do your first tri, and I look forward to hearing how it goes!!!
I’d love to hear about keeping up a quick pace over a long distance. I’m training for my first half and would love to do so in under 2 hrs. It’s frustrating for me as a female to work really hard at speed work and then have a guy friend pick up running and blow my times away!! Lol.
Happy one year and what an amazing giveaway!
I would like to hear more about fueling for varying distances (and hydrating, too). This is something I’m currently trying hard to work on during training for my first marathon and I love finding out about new fuel choices – especially “natural” or “real food” choices!
How to plan a “race-cation” and strength training for runners. Happy anniversary!
Thanks for the feedback, Alessandra! Strength training has been a popular topic so I’ll definitely start thinking about writing on that. I did a post last year on how to plan a racecation. Check it out and let me know if it is helpful: http://www.runladylike.com/2012/10/22/how-to-turn-your-next-half-or-full-marathon-into-a-racecation
Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary! I love reading all your tips – helps me stay motivated! Just finished my first 10K and hoping to do a half marathon next year!
Also – Would love to see a guest post from a beginner runner with check in posts to see what their journey has been like.
Congrats on your 10K!!! Woot woot! Good luck with your half training. I hope you’ll keep me posted on your progress!
I’d love to hear more about training for marathons!
I’d love to read more about strength training and cross training
I’d appreciate knowing more about how to increase my speed while running.
I’m considering doing my first ever full marathon next year and would love some tips on surviving training/looooong runs!
Happy Anniversary! I would like to learn more about fueling during long runs and what you think the best fuel belt/pouch is that you use?
Hi Tara! Thanks for the feedback and entering the contest. Fuel and hydration has been a popular request! I’ll definitely write more on that soon. In the meantime, I use the Nathan Hydration hand-held water bottle. It holds a 20 oz bottle to your hand and also has a pouch that can fit an iPhone and gels/chews, etc. I’ve been a fan of the Clif Shot Bloks and Honey Stinger products, and they fit in my pouch. I don’t like anything flopping on my mid-section, which is why I really love the hand-held. It might take a few weeks to get used to, but soon you’ll be running with it like you don’t even have it on. Good luck with your training.
I’d love to learn more about half marathon training. I am currently training for my first half. 🙂
Happy blogeversary!!
I love to read EVERYTHING you share. I’d love to read your thoughts and experiences training for multiple races!
Thank you so much, Shauna! Your words mean a lot! Training for multiple races at the same time is a great topic. I was training for a marathon and half Ironman at the same time last year and it was definitely an adventure. I’ll think about that for a future post. Thanks again and good luck!
Happy One Year Pretty lady! I am so glad I found you on the blogosphere… I truly value our blendship 🙂 p.s. I obviously need more Brooks in my life. xo
Thank you so much, Cori! I’m so glad we’ve met online as well! Hopefully one of these days we’ll get to meet IRL 🙂
Happy One Year!! I am embarking on my first marathon in October, and would love to hear about your fueling tips. I’ve been testing the waters a little, so always open for new ideas.
I would love to learn more about easy ways to improve nutrition while training.
I would like to read more about pronation and it’s affect on running mechanics.
I’d like to learn more about the mental aspects of training – exercising and disciplining the mind the same way we do with the body.
I would like to read more about strength training for runners.
Since I just started out in January, there’s still so much that I want to know! Specifically, training for half marathons and all about gels, chews, etc.
I would like to hear the “little secrets” of triathlons. I’ve done 3 sprint distances…but I know when the distance gets longer in tris more things come up-bathroom time comes to mind 🙂 Also, little cycling secrets-aero bar use, getting faster, etc.
Great ideas, Jenelle. I could teach you how to pee while you’re on your bike *wink* Thanks for stopping by and entering the contest.
I’d like to read more about how to fuel for long runs.
I would like to read more about cross training
I would like to learn more about MAF Training.
I would love to read more about ways to get into running..
I cycle for my commute, and sometimes my legs feel exhausted after it for the first mile of my run- any tips on balancing cycling/running and making it easier greatly appreciated!
Would love to read more about increasing speed especially for marathon training
Very inspirational blog
Loved you ice bath blog. It was super helpful!!!
I would love to know how to train better, because I don’t do it enough
I would lov to learn more about fueling with real food. I feel like a I spend a ridiculous amount of money on energy chewies.
Great topic, Lauren. I was just thinking about doing a post on homemade energy chews the other day. Thanks for the suggestion. Some other foods that you might find good on the run (if your stomach can handle the fiber) are raisins, lara bars, honey, etc. On the bike, I also like to eat baby red potatoes that have been cooked and salted, as well as pretzels.
I’d love to find an article that focused on breathing for runners. That seems to be my downfall. It’s not my legs that get tired during a run!!
Happy Blogiverasry!! You have really put together a fantastic blog in one year. I am really enjoying reading your 70.3 training right now. 🙂 So, keep that up!
Thank you so much Kristen for your kind words and support! xo
I would love to know more about how to improve my running through cross training with a bike!
Happy Blogiversary! I am really interested in cross training – what are the most effective items/exercises to do for cross training.
Happy Blogaversary! One thing I would really like to learn about this next year is how to fuel your body. Not just like “Oh GU Chomps are great!” But like real foods that runners can eat.
I’m actually looking to read about pronation and it’s effect on running/injuries. I’m also curious to see any articles on foot strike as related to running/injuries.
Definitely more about triathlon training and all the gear, etc needed.
HAPPY ONE YEAR!!!!!! Congrats!
I think this year I want to learn how far I can push myself! I’m training for my first half and already I’m amazed at how far I have come, so I’m really looking forward to see where I’m headed!
I’d like to read more about how to manage training for big races (like a first marathon) when you are injury prone, or nursing an injury that will not go away — like my annoying achilles tendonitis!
Happy 1-year anniversary!!
I’d love to read about the best stretch/flexibility/strength exercises for runners. I find myself getting tired of googling and trying to find everything..
Happy 1-year Blogiversary!!! I would love to hear more about training for 1/2 and full marathons especially for someone like myself who has never ran anything more than 5 miles. 🙂
First, Happy Anniversary!! When we met at Divas- Myrtle Beach, there was alot to like about you but what I liked most was your honesty lol about everything but about running and the not-so-lad- like experiences that we all deal with but maybe we don’t all talk so openly about. I won’t go into detail but i loved it so it’s always nice to read the ugly truths about running on your blog. Other than that I really would like to read about the importance of cross training and injury prevention since that is what seems to catch up with me every year around the same time… what cross training is most beneficial…your favorite/ most effective stretches… maybe some swimming advice- i’d like to start and i know its great exercise- but I doggie paddle at best.. well I guess that’s more than one thing I want to read about 🙂 again, congrats on your 1 year! 🙂
Thank you so much Kristen! It was SO great to meet you in real life at the Divas Half Marathon in Myrtle Beach, and I sure didn’t waste any time being unladylike did I? Ha! (oops!) I hope to see you the next time I’m in Tampa for a run. xo
Happy Blogiversary!
You’re a total runspiration plus I love werging and I’ve definitely dones some rUnladylike things.
Would love read about what are good strength training moves for runners.
Cheers! Georgie
Happy Anniversary! I would love to know more about energy gels, bits, and gummies. I’m about to start training for my first half marathon and need a boost to get over my 6 mile hump
I’d love to learn more about T1 and T2 – tips on how to be organized, ways to keep time in transition short, tips for bad weather while going into transition, etc. I’m hoping to do my first multisport next year!
Happy Blogiversary! I love your posts on training. They are interesting. Also, it may be there, maybe more on appropriate clothing for different events and nutrition?
Happy anniversary! I just found your blog, but I’m enjoying catching up on your old posts. I’m a new triathlete and I’d love to get some tips on improving my bike and swim.
Hi Lisa! Thanks so much for stopping by and exploring 🙂 Glad you found me. I’ll definitely be thinking about some upcoming posts on these topics. More on triathlon has been a very popular request this week! Thanks again! xo
Happy Blogiversary! You’ve accomplished quite a lot in 1 year of blogging! I had no idea you were so new to it!
I’d love to hear more about nutrition for triathlon – I have my own strategies but I love hearing other peoples !
Thanks Nicole. That is a great topic. Nutrition has been HOT here in the comments today. Looking forward to chatting with all of you more about it.
Yay! Congrats on 1 yr!!! I’m just beginning on my blogging endeavor and it’s so exciting to read about others journeys. I’d love to read more about your training tips through injury. I normally stick to 5k’s but I did my first Half last May and would love to do another and improve my time!
Congrats! I am getting back in to walking/ running again after a foot injury. I enjoy your blog and the information you are giving.
Thank you so much Kristie. Great job on getting back into walking and running. I hope you are doing well and that I’ll get to see you soon! xo
Congrats on the blogiversary! I’m training for my first half marathon so I love all the information on training, stretching and ice baths! There’s so much to learn!
I’m training for my first half-marathon and would love to see tips on how to stay motivated on long runs. The farthest I’ve run was just short of nine miles and the thought of running farther is a bit overwhelming!!
Happy blog anniversary!
This year I want to learn different types of speed workouts to try so that I can get faster and work towards my goal of qualifying for the Boston marathon. I also want to develop a good go-to core strengthening routine to prevent injury, since I have issues maintaining hip strength.
Congrats on your blogiversary!!!!! I love reading all the posts you have 🙂 I would love to hear more about your cross training and how you prevent injuries. I am getting back into running after a nasty one and want to prevent reoccurrences! 🙂
Congrats of 1 year! I would love to hear about speed training and nutrition when training for a marathon!
Happy Blogiversary!
I would like to learn more about triathlon clothing as it kind of confuses me 🙂
Happy Blogaversary! I am so glad I have gotten to know you and hang out through the blog world. It is amazing what you have accomplished in just one year. I am starting to consider the thought of a tri however I suck at swimming so I would love to more about swim techniques and must have gear!
I would love to learn more about incorporating quick nutritious high protein meals and recipes for convenience after a busy workday!
Congratulations on your first year! Huge accomplishment!
Happy blogiversary!! I would loveee to learn more about speed work!
I would like to read about injury prevention and recovery – and maybe some recipes
How to get my knees to stop hurting about 18 miles into every single marathon I’ve done no matter how I train.
I need to learn about how to recover from my broken ankle smart, how to drop my times and neutral shoes – which will be best for me now (I’m thinking Brooks).
Congrats on the anniversary. I’m a new runner training for my first half in September, and hoping to do longer distances in future years. I’ve always been pretty skinny and with the amount I’m exercising now, weight’s not likely to be an issue for me. But I don’t know if my diet is ideal for making sure my body is prepared to run long endurance races, so I’d love to learn more about that and especially tips for sticking to the right kind of food when everything’s hectic.
I signed up to run my first marathon in January. I’ve read up about training. I need to read more about how to mentally prepare!
(Side note: I liked your facebook page from my running page, Once Upon a Run, not from my personal page which you have to use to log into rafflecopter)
Happy anniversary! I think reading more about building endurance would be great. I have the getting out there and laying down mileage down. I need other helpful hints to get my speed and strength up!
Congratulations! I want to learn more about tips/advice for a runner about to tackle her first ultra marathon.
I’d love to hear your race day tips and fueling tips for Paleo eaters! I’m not completely Paleo, but we do a combination of eating clean / Paleo and I find that a lot of pre-made fuels make my stomach hurt. I’d love to hear what you do!
I would never be able to run like that. I have horrible horrible knees. I guess I would like to know how hard it that on your body and joints. I know for me, even walking (especially stairs) is awful for me. I will need knee replacements at some point.
Happy one year:) I actually love running alot, but for awhile kind of stopped bc I end up pulling my muscle. I want to get back on track though.
I’d love to read more about how long distance running positively or negatively effects different people!
Love your site and happy blogiversary! I am looking for information and tips on how to get faster, but still do long distance. I see that Natalie asked the same question and you provided her with a link, which I am going to go check out as soon as I finish entering your awesome giveaway!!!
Congratulations, Jesica! I feel so lucky that I found your blog when I moved back to Atlanta – and I hope that we have many more opportunities to run and train together over the next year! I’d love to hear more about how you set goals and plan your race calendar. What paces or finishing times are you going after? Or what races are on your bucket list? I’d also love to hear more about trail running – and if you’d be interested in doing any ultra races.
HaPpY AnNiVeRsArY! I’d love to hear more about nutrition for ultras. I’ve tackled many marathons, but an ultra is a whole other beast! That and your favorite sports bras. I thought I found my go-to, but looks like I haven’t.
Congratulations! What an exciting benchmark! I would love to learn more about strength training that helps improve running and also about what kind of goals are realistic for different levels of runners. For example, I know I want to get faster, but as a beginner runner, I’m not sure how to set realistic targets for speed improvement. Also, are there other types of intermediate goals to set and work towards while trying to build up endurance for distance goals? Thanks!
Happy Blogiversary! I would love to read more about swimming, and making that transition from a runner to a triathlete.
Thanks so much, Jess! Swimming has been a popular request here, so I’ll definitely figure out a way to write more about that in the coming weeks. In the meantime, here is a post I recently wrote on transitioning from running to tris. I hope it is helpful 🙂 Good luck in the contest! http://www.runladylike.com/2013/06/19/first-triathlon-tips
I’d love to know more about how to even get started in triathlon if you’re not a cyclist or swimmer, at all.
Congrats on the blogaversary, friend!
I would love to read about how to get started with a triathlon. I’m so interested in trying one, but I have no clue where to even start!
Congratulations, Jes! I’ve been following you from the beginning and you’ve motivated me to do sooo much. 4 half marathons later here I am! Thank you!!! As you already know… I need help on swim technique, specifically freestyle.
Happy 1-year blogiversary friend! Xo!
Yay!! I’d like to learn more about strength training to compliment my running.
Nutrition!! I know it’s different for everyone but even just a listing of helpful books for endurance athletes would be great – a book review!
More about transitions please! It’s kind of the black box of tris for me! Thanks!
Congrats! Love to hear about getting out a rut … struggling a bit with this now … just “don’t feel like it.” I’m still running 5-6 times a week but I’m not loving it like I normally do!
Hi Heather! Thanks so much and good luck with the contest! I think this is a great topic and something that many of us experience. I wrote about getting out of a rut last year. See if this helps in the meantime. Thanks again for stopping by! http://www.runladylike.com/2012/08/22/overcoming-a-mental-rut
Happy Anniversary! I would love to learn more about fueling for long runs and getting faster!
Congrats on one year! I would really love to see more about building up mileage. As someone who ran cross country all of high school, I really feel like I mastered the 5k a while ago. I am moving towards longer distances and really love it so far, but have a tendency to get hurt easily. I would love a little more guidance in that department!
Happy one year anniversary!!! I would love for you to talk about the very basic of triathlons. I would love to do one some day but the swimming part intimidates me because I just jump in and go I have never been taught different strokes or how to work on speed. 🙂
Happy Anniversary! You have accomplished so much since starting your blog, that is awesome. I want to eventually do a triathlon one day but it seems such a daunting task and would love to know more about how you or anyone might get started. Also, I suffer from Vertigo and would love to hear anyone’s story on how they deal with running and Vertigo.
As a new runner myself, I enjoy reading new workouts to increase speed, energy and endurance as well as the best nutrition tips to promote better results. Thanks and congrats!
Wow, you are such an inspiration! Congratulations on your first year of blogging. I’m so impressed with everything that I read and it makes me want to be a better runner but my biggest thing is I don’t get that runners high, I get tired and can’t wait to get to my finish line. How do I get past that?
Thank you so much, Amy! And what a good question you’ve posed. I’ll do some thinking on that. Running — although it can really hurt — should bring us joy and be fun. Perhaps making it more social and not focusing too much on time and pace would be good for you. Also joining a running social club and/or doing more cross-training and other activities you like even more might be helpful. xo
How to run in the heat without feeling like I’m having an asthma attack! And, how to stay motivated during the summer heat, without having to resort to the dreadmill, and without getting so defeated and down on yourself because running times suck in the heat.
I’d love to read about running for new moms AND new dads 🙂 My husband and I both like to run but with two babies it’s becoming more complicated.
I want to learn more about Interval training & the right way to go about doing them plus other options for speed training.
Congratulations on your 1st anniversary blogging, you do an awesome job. Have learned a lot so far from your blog
Thank you so very much for your kind words, Mark. And thanks for the feedback on topics you’d like to continue learning more about. Good luck with the contest.
Happy Anniversary and thank you for blogging! I would love to learn more about balancing running/training and being a mom, wife, friend, sister, daughter, employee and still getting dinner on the table, the house cleaned, yardwork done and kids happy. Looking forward to following you for you many more years!
Jesica-
First, I have to say congratulations – it’s crazy that it’s already been one year! It’s truly amazing to see the success I am witnessing here. Frankly, I knew it was going to be a hit, because I KNOW anything you set your mind to WILL become a fascinating story.
Do you have any recommendations for us who are newbie runners dealing with (minor now) shinsplints? I’d like to hear about that.
I’m still working on my runs. I’m doing my first 5K next month in Charlotte (Roc Race – game show inspired race) and I’m down about 24 lbs! I have a goal of about 13 more. Reading blogs like your just continue to inspire me to not give up.
Keep up the fabulous work!
Thank you SO much Michael. And thank you for helping me make this blog possible with such a great design! Can’t wait to work with you on some updates later this year 🙂 Regarding shin splints, they typically occur when it is time for new shoes, so you may want to pop into your local running store this weekend to get fitted for a new pair. They can also occur from the build-up of miles quickly. Ice them every day (20 minutes on, 20 minutes off several times during the day) and take a few days off if they start to get bad. You may also try compression socks. I don’t swear by them, but a lot of people do. Most of us can run through them and they tend to go away pretty quickly once you’re in the right pair of shoes. Thanks again for your kind words and the role you have played and will continue to play with runladylike.com. Anyone looking for a blog/Web designer should check out Michael at Capstone Design Group. Holler!
I’d like to read more about the benefits of different types of shoes
I’d like to know more about stretching/foam rolling techniques. I am so bad about neglecting these after long runs.
How to stay motivated with a busy life
Wow what a fantastic giveaway!! Thank you so much for hosting it!! I would love to learn or read more about shinsplints and using running as a weight loss tool. So many people talk about weight loss but then many others will say that it is impossible to lose weight while running so I would be very interested in reading or learning more about that.
Congrats on your anniversary! Great giveaway – I love my Brooks Pure Cadence and Pure Grit shoes and Nuun – LOVE!
I would like to learn more about triathalons!
Congrats on the 1 year!
I would love to learn about long run fueling and the best races to participate in.
I’d love to learn more about posterior shin splints. Most places talk about anterior shin splints but no one talks about the others!
I’d like to know more about injury prevention, and specifically if you have any advice/experience with chronic shin splints.
I would love to learn more about fueling during different length races. For instance, how do you fuel differently for a half as opposed to a full marathon and so on.
Just found your blog btw and am really enjoying it!
Congrats on the one year. I’d love to see more about fitting time to run for those of us who need 48 or more hours in a day to get everything done. I work outdoors and get exercise already by walking about 3 miles a day at work. It leave me little time and energy to go out for a run.
I’d like to learn more about fueling. When I was training for my first marathon, I had NO idea what I was doing
Happy anniversary! I’d love to read more about fueling tips. I’m currently struggling a great deal with fueling properly and find myself crashing continuously during long runs.
I wanna know how to get my ass in gear on the bike! Gota get speedier….but hoooowww!?
Happy 1 year! I think the one thing I would love to know more about is strength training for runners (especially upper body)! I am currently focusing my energy to making sure my core and upper body are up to par. My posture has always been horrendous, so any new information would be beneficial!
I want to learn how to get faster and build up my endurance! I’m still not super fast, so I want to figure out what types of workouts to do to improve 🙂
Congratulations on your 1 year blogiversary!!!! Such a huge milestone, and many more to come I hope!
As for what I’d like to learn: how to swim!!! I want to tackle a tri next year, and it seems I’ve forgotten how to swim, period, let alone athletically.
As far as running goes, besides hydrating and fuelling during a run, I’d love to know how people keep their heads in it for 26.2, let alone an ironman!!! I’m a little ADD and get bored, even with music. So unique strategies would be fun to learn.
I would love to learn more about the basics of purchasing a bike (I don’t even know where to start!) and beginning the transition from simply running races (which I love, don’t get me wrong) and swimming laps/spin classes as alternate forms of cardio to competing in a triathlon. Thanks! ~Cat M 🙂
Talk about the core more. (I only said it that way because it rhymes.)
I too am a fellow runner/blogger and really enjoy your blog. I would love to see more training plans amongst all running levels. I schedule my workouts several months in advance and I love to see a variety of workout plans 🙂 Congrats on the one year blog anniversary!
Congratulations! I would love to learn more about triathlons, what equipment to purchase, swimming techniques, etc…
Congrats on the anniversary! I’ve only found your blog recently, but am enjoying it! I’m training for my first marathon right now, so any and all marathon tips are welcome!
I would love to hear more about cross training. How did you get started on swimming and biking?
Love reading your adventures! I’m a really slow runner and would like to learn how to speed up my pace
Congrats – 1 year woot woot!
I’d love to learn how to approach tri-training. I’m a runner of most distances and triathlons just scare me. The purchase of a bike, the training and especially the swimming. Where do you even start if you don’t have access to a pool or own a race bike BUT have a tri on your “list”??
I would love to learn how to run a faster marathon!
Happy Anniversary! I like to hear about anything running related, and just get to know you more, which I am sure will happen at HTC, but also nice via the blog!
how to find the time to train!
Hi!! Just came across your blog and after this post I must say I love it! Happy Anniversary! I would love to read about ways different ways to fuel when training to prepare for the actual race. Just all things running related for more beginner type runners!
I’m still very new to triathlon but the bike portion is definitely my weakest of the three. I’d love to learn more about how to be a better, more efficient cyclist.
Happy blog-iversary!
I’d love to read more about training plans and incorporating strength training into marathon training.
I am currently training for the Augusta half ironman in September, LOVED reading your recap of last year! Great job! So glad I found your blog! I would like to learn more about fueling before and during races, that’s the one area I definitely need to work on!
I’m new to running and have been training for my first half marathon this fall. There’s so much I need to learn: how to fuel, how to build endurance, how to stay injury free and how to know when a pain is something to worry about, and probably other things that I don’t even know I need to know!
fueling is always an interesting topic — congrats on one year! woo 😀
Hi! LOVE your blog. I’m training for my first half marathon and would love to hear any tips you might have–especially on fueling before/during/after.
Happy Anniversary! What an amazing job you have done in one short year!! ( I am almost 6 months in and sometimes I feel that no one is out there!!!!) Congrats to you and I wish you many more years of blogging success!
