Wordless Wednesday: More from the Augusta 70.3 Bike Course
September 12, 2012
As you know, I got to preview the ESi Augusta 70.3 bike course last weekend. Here are a few more pictures from the 56-mile bike course test ride. Ready or not, race day is coming! 17 days and counting to my first half Ironman!!!

Do you like to preview a bike or run course prior to race day, or would you rather it be a surprise? If you do ride or run on a course before a race, how do you mentally stay focused if the course is really challenging?

I ran a course just once before a race – and it was a disaster. It was a Saturday night race in June, and I ran the Friday morning before. The weather conditions couldn’t have been more different. I ran the test run in the mid-70’s, and was like, “this is a piece of cake!!”, and then race night hit – upper 90’s and humid. And I struggled mightily, since I was over-prepared.
So I won’t do it again.
At least on purpose. 😉
Thanks for sharing your story, Dave! I hope my race isn’t worse than my test ride 🙂
For my big first race i plan to do this. But not a real run – probably half of it. I think it’s a great idea for two reasons: calm my nerves so I know what to expect and be familiar with the environment. I understand!
