When Sweating More is Better

May 11, 2013

I sweat. A lot. Plain and simple.

A long run. A speed session. A spin class. My body does not discriminate. I sweat like crazy in all of them.

So you can imagine my delight in discovering a shirt that rewards me for sweating more.

The nice folks at ViewSPORT recently sent me one of their workout tanks to try. And it is definitely different than anything else I have. They invented something they call “sweat-activated technology.” All of their shirts with this technology display text or images as the fabric darkens from your own sweat. So essentially, your sweat becomes motivation to keep you going through your workout.

The top I tried was the DO IT Blue racerback tank.

So what do I think about ViewSPORT’s product and the sweat-activated technology?

  • You have to sweat A LOT for the technology to activate. A 4-mile run or weight-lifting session at the gym will likely not bring your shirt to life. To see your motivation revealed, you need to engage in activity in which you’re typically soaked, such as an intense spin class or workout in warm temps. Other things that would be effective: car washes, water parks, slip ‘n’ slide activities and wet T-shirt contests. Yes, I just said wet T-shirt contests. No, I’ve never participated in one. But they would all activate your shirt’s message. *wink*
  • Because the material is 98 percent cotton and 2 percent spandex, I would not recommend this shirt for running. I’d stick to indoor gym workouts and spin classes to activate your message.
  • The racerback I tried was very fitted and wasn’t as flattering around my mid-section. I would recommend ordering the slim fit tops in one size larger than you typically order.
  • ViewSPORT says the sweat-activated technology has been tested to remain effective for about 50 wash/dry cycles. The washing instructions say to turn the shirt inside out and wash in cold water. Do not use any bleach products or fabric softeners. Hang to dry or tumble dry on low. Don’t use an iron.
  • These shirts would make for a really fun gift for an active person you know because they are so unique. ViewSPORT is currently running a deal through May 13 for 15 percent off any shirt using the code MOMROCKS.

Disclaimer: ViewSPORT sent me a free DO IT blue racerback tank to try. I did not receive any compensation for this post, and all my thoughts are my own and always will be.

Have you ever worked out in a shirt with sweat-activated technology? If so, what do you think? What else keeps you motivated to power through a hard workout?

I saw this or something similiar on Shark Tank….seems like a really cool idea, but I rarely sweat that much in my torso!?

I get ridiculously sweaty on 4-mile runs..so this might work for me. I really like the concept of this shirt but I’m always skeptical about it.. besides, I usually run in a sports bra and shorts, especially when it’s hot, so I’m not sure I’d get good use out of this shirt.

A couple of the girls at the gym I teach at have the shirts and really like them. I have stared at the website a million times but could never decide on one — especially since I’m not a big sweater during group fitness. Unless you count today. I taught Piloxing, and could barely keep it out of my eyes during floorwork! Maybe time to look again.

Personally, there is nothing like a good soundtrack to keep me motivated. And thanks for sharing the shirts! I’ve never seen those before.

I’ve seen a few shirts like this, and I think it is a neat idea. Thanks for your review!
