Turkey Burn Circuit Workout

November 27, 2014

For as long as I can remember, Thanksgiving Day has always started with a workout. Typically, a run. My earliest memories of running and racing are all from Thanksgiving Day. My family and I would run a 5K/10K Turkey Trot in Florida. It ended on a high school track, and we’d sit in the stands after and cheer for the rest of the runners as they crossed the finish line. Every runner received an ugly cotton T-shirt at the finish that we would all wear that day, even though it was typically hot orange or brown with someone’s winning drawing of a turkey on it.

This year, my family will run that Turkey Trot (and probably wear the ugly cotton shirts), while Mr. rUnladylike and I will be running in Sonoma, California. The tradition continues, no matter where we are. We have to earn (and burn) our turkey.

And speaking of burning off some of that Thanksgiving Day meal, here is a circuit workout we did this week while traveling in wine country. It’s a great 30-minute workout to do this week to counteract some of those Thanksgiving Day calories.

Do 5 rounds of each exercise, for a total of 100 reps each of squats, push-ups, sit-ups and burpees and 1.25 miles of running. For beginners or those who need some modifications, do the push-ups on your knees and reduce the number of burpees to 10 each round.

Be sure to consult your doctor before trying a new circuit workout.

Do you have a Thanksgiving Day tradition that involves running or exercise? What are you most thankful for this year?

This sounds awesome! I might try it tomorrow!! I don’t really have traditional Thanksgiving work out plans but this year I did a 4K swim which was awesome!
I am thankful for my family, friends, and my body that lets me beat it up everyday! 🙂

Looks like a great workout! We ran a 5K turkey trot this year. It was a heated competition. My husband beat me by 20 seconds. Hope your turkey trot went well and that you had a great Thanksgiving!
