Running and Relationships

August 28, 2015

My heart was racing a little. I had butterflies in my stomach. I couldn’t stop smiling. I kept asking my friends around me: Is it almost time yet? My family and friends were clapping and cheering. I was on a total high.

It wasn’t marathon race day.

It was my wedding day.

Six years ago this weekend, my husband (aka Mr. rUnladylike) and I tied the knot and ventured on the greatest marathon in life.

Long distance running and endurance sports require sacrifice, compromise, support and encouragement, especially when one partner is an avid runner and/or triathlete and the other is more recreational. In honor of this special day, I thought I’d share 12 articles from runladylike.com and from around the web on relationships and running.

Wishing you lots of love in your running and in life. xo

You know, I met my boyfriend through running, a good majority of our friends are runners, the events we go to together tend to be running events… but I can’t run with him. he is WAY faster than me, and for some reason I get all up in my head about running with him and how slow he has to go for me and i get panic attacks and anxiety and can’t breathe. it’s really really strange.

Congratulations to you and Mr. Runladylike on six years of marriage! My husband and I run together during off-season and strength train together year-round (although we do separate workouts, but it’s nice to go to the gym together!). Most of all, it’s his support that makes a hard training cycle so much easier!

Congratulations to you both, I love the pictures! I do not run with my hubbie, he has a much faster pace than me! We will run together on vacation but I always feel like I am slowing him down (although he does not care at all). He trains for one half marathon per year, and I train for one HIM and a marathon this year, so I train more than him (although he works out 6 days a week also), but he is always so freakin’ understanding about me needing to get a training workout in. His support through my training and races has made it all so much easier. I think you definitely need that!

Your wedding photos are beautiful! My boyfriend recently started running with me – he’s done 2 halfs now and has 2 more on deck with me. I love that it’s become something we share and he totally gets the ups and downs along with it! Thanks for posting those articles – love some of them.

happy anniversary!

I’m very lucky to have a husband who also runs marathons and does triathlon , but even so we still have conflicts over training since he definitely isn’t as type a as I am! Overall it really works for us and is motivating to have a partner who also wants to get out of bed at 5:30 am for a workout. It’s also fun to have a buddy to drive to races with!

Happy Anniversary!
My husband hates running. Most days I’m glad he’s not a runner so we don’t have to split races or figure out who is running a marathon this year BUT sometimes I wish he could understand the sport more and be more involved. I’ll just keep working on the kids 🙂

Oh wow! Happy Anniversary! Today is actually our anniversary too – except it’s our 1st Anniversary! Hope you have a great day!

Happy one-year anniversary Laura! So exciting! I hope your day is wonderful and that you have fun reminiscing about your wedding day. xo

Happy Anniversary! My husband isn’t a runner so it’s been easier to train for events. He’s my biggest cheerleader and the best sherpa I’d could ever ask for!
