Running Update: 21 Weeks Pregnant

September 1, 2016

More than halfway through my pregnancy, I’m continuing to run, but it isn’t easy. Now 21 weeks pregnant, I’m coming to you from my home gym today with a quick video message since I last checked in at 18 weeks pregnant.

Here’s what I’m sharing today:

  • How running is going and how many days a week I’m running
  • How I’ve altered my running style and what I’m looking forward to next month on the running front
  • How much weight I’ve gained and how my body has changed
  • What I’m wearing that’s making me feel more confident

Did you miss my baby announcement in July? If so, you can read it here.

How is your running going lately? If you have tips and advice you’d like to share with me as I experience my first pregnancy, I’m all ears.

I love these videos and hearing your voice! I’m so glad you’re feeling so good and are still able to run without much discomfort. And I really cannot believe with all your travel, that you’re not completely exhausted. Good for you!! Cannot wait to see you soon…

Hey! Thanks for checking in. You’re doing great. I’m at 33 weeks and running well up until a couple days ago. The soreness in my lower abdomen (feels like muscle soreness) didn’t go away during my thirty minute run, so I’m thinking my running days are limited. And, we have some bad weather coming so I’ll be having my first two rest days in a row I’ve had in a while. I only have 6-7 more weeks to go so I don’t want to join a gym so I may just be walking and strength training from here to delivery. Good luck! Glad to hear you are doing well.

You are getting so close Veronica! Sounds like walking and strength training will be good for you. A lot of people have recommended swimming and water aerobics to me. Have you tried that yet? I’m looking forward to hearing more about the arrival of your sweet baby. xo

Love this update! I felt the exact same way about running! It sucked and I kind of dreaded it starting around 20 weeks and I was so much more motivated by classes! I stopped running officially at 32 weeks but honestly it was pretty pathetic for at least 6 weeks before that! Don’t beat yourself up too much if you decide to call it quits soon.

You are the cutest pregnant lady! Love your great outfit in this video. Good for you for continuing to run. I was not able to run during my first pregnancy due to pregnancy at 12 weeks and only ran until about 20 weeks with my second because it was so uncomfortable. Love hearing how things are going and cannot wait to see you!!!

I love your outfit! I’m so happy for you that pregnancy is going well. Good for you for running and also doing fitness classes that feel good for your body. I can’t wait to meet you in a few weeks!

Hi Jesica! Wow, I felt like I could relate to this update on almost every single point — Runs 1-2 times/week. Lots of walking. Lots of pelvic pressure. Yay for prenatal yoga! Yay for tunics and dresses! And I still can’t handle eating large pieces/chunks of meat, ew.
I too am struggling a bit mentally with the changes my body is going through. Especially since it seems to change on an almost daily basis these days. And the ginormous boobs are just bizarre to me. My size “large” (first size “large” anything I think I’ve worn as an adult!) Brooks sports bras just arrived, and are a much-needed breath of fresh air.
Can’t wait to hear about your 5k in a few weeks — I’m still hoping I can slog through my 5-miler. I made it almost 5 miles with the help of an abdominal support belt last Sunday, but I definitely overdid it and ended up with super sore pelvic muscles for about 48 hrs afterwards. I’m thinking 30 min of “running” at a time may be the sweet spot.
Hope you’re staying safe and dry during this nasty hurricane weather — my brother is on his way back home to Tampa from Virginia right now, so I’m sure I’ll hear from him about how you all are doing down there!
